After the Town Hall ceremony, the couple walked over to the disabled in their carriages. The Duke spoke to ex Irish Guardsman Matthew McCann (61), an Irishman by birth, who came to live in Mansfield in 1908. Mr McCann told the Duke he was wounded near Ypres in 1916.
