The school's Air Training Corps squadron formed a guard of honour to welcome Field Marshal Montgomery and he was greeted by Mr L. Brettle (headmaster), Mr A. Lacy (assistant headmaster) and Mr F.L. Hughes. He was introduced to Ald. Ethel Wainwright (chairman of the Queen Elizabeth's Endowed Schools), Mr I.E. Pickard (chairman of the Boys' School) and others.
